Presence Film

Steven Soderbergh challenges his creative boundaries in this nifty ghostly tale captured wholly from the viewpoint of the phantom. The premise is enjoyable that doesn't outstay its welcome, featuring a surprise that could catch you off guard. October 11th, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

The iconic actor fully commits to his cult stardom through this autobiographical spoof. He acts as a narcissistic film star named Nicolas Cage who accepts a $1m payday to visit a festive event at a Mediterranean location for the wealthy Javi, played by Pedro Pascal. Recruited by the intelligence agency to investigate the alleged criminal, Cage's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” is put to the test. October 11th, evening, on Channel 4

This Creepy Thriller

Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a follow-up. Located in the late 70s in Denver, multiple disappearances has left the local kids anxious. After Finney gets captured by the villain and held captive in a basement, he fears the worst. Yet the old telephone in the room repeatedly calls, with eerie communicators giving advice, as the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, nighttime, Film4

The Eyes of Tammy Faye

In the battle between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for materialism in this director's brilliantly over-the-top biopic about the fallen televangelist and her criminal husband. The actor portrays the greedy Jim, who states early on, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple begin monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's a riot of bad interior design, overdone appearance and insincerity, yet the lead actress manages to depict the real-life figure in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, Film4

This Espionage Thriller

This period's another release by the same director is a espionage tale as precise similar to the collars used by the actor's British agent. The two stars are experts of understated style, so a delicious mental battle of truth or lie takes place. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela participate the clever spy entertainment. October 17th, various showings, Sky Cinema
